Automotive Salesperson – New and Used

Location: Slingerland Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM
Reports to: New or Used Sales Manager

Position Summary

The Automotive Salesperson’s job responsibilities are to sell automobiles by understanding and demonstrating characteristics, capabilities, and features; developing and qualifying buyers as well as closing sales. The salesperson is responsible for being a automobile product specialist, knowledgeable about all Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM and FIAT vehicles and a variety of used models as well. Must utilize professional communication with customers in face to face interactions as well as utilizing multiple forms of electronic communication. This position is classified as an EXEMPT position.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Understands automobiles by studying their features and capabilities, as well as comparing and contrasting competitive models.
  • Develop buyers by keeping good rapport with previous new customers; also by suggesting trade-ins; respond to inquiries; recommend sales campaigns and promotions
  • Qualify buyers by understand their interests and requirements; matching requirements and interest to various models, etc.
  • Utilize the 10 steps of the sales process
  • Effectively close sales by overcoming objections; asking for the sale; negotiating price; complete sales or purchase contracts; explain provisions; offer services, warranties and financing options; collect payment and deliver automobile.
  • Update own job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, attending seminars and reading professional sales/automotive publications.
  • Assess customer’s needs by listening and asking questions in a timely manner
  • Perform a walk around with new and old customers and demonstrate features of suitable vehicles.
  • Complete the delivery process by ensuring that customers understand the vehicle’s operating features, paperwork and warranty.
  • Effectively document all customer information and interactions within the CRM to ensure a smooth buying process and effective follow up interactions.
  • Establish and maintain an effective follow up system which encourages repeat business
  • Participate in sales meetings and training provided by the dealership and manufacturers.
  • Promote strategies and procedures that will achieve quality standards and the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Be proficient in multiple electronic communication modes; smart phone, email, texting, face-to- face interactions and sending/receiving documents electronically.
  • Enhance the dealership reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different request; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Position Qualifications:

Valid Drivers License, excellent communication skills in multiple electronic and in-person modes, professional dress, meet minimum sales goals; energetic and possess a positive attitude


Associate Degree preferred; High School Diploma or GED required

Knowledge Requirements:

Basic sales knowledge, proficient in the use of a smart phone, ipad, and/or other computer formats; practices professional customer service standards at all times.


One year of sales or vehicle sales experience preferred.
