Evolution of Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler has become so much a part of Americana that there is almost a club-like fascination with the feeling of freedom and utility that comes with the Wrangler. It has come a long way from its roots as a World War II military tool. Now it serves as the daily vehicle for millions of families, every year.
The early iterations of the Jeep Wranglers included the YJ in the mid-to-late 80's and 90's. It was designed for the weekend warrior, thanks to its ability to go off-road geared engineering. It wasn't until the early 90's when they started including features aimed for comfort and more daily driving.
In the late 1990's, the Jeep Wrangler started becoming a more practical option for everyday status. The frame became stiffer and the addition of coil springs would give drivers a smoother ride. That limited the rattle and clanks that were customary in prior versions. In 2007, the Wrangler started making a four-door jeep. Then traction and stability control created a safer ride.
That brings us to the current version of the Jeep Wrangler, the Wrangler JL. It takes all the trial and errors of previous model years and has perfected them into the ideal Jeep for off-road and paved road driving. More safety, driver-assist and technology features bring the Wrangler into the 21st Century, while maintaining the feeling of freedom and individuality drivers crave. Freedom that comes in the form of its unique removeable roof, doors or in some cases, foldable front windshield.
