A Quick Chat about the Jeep Brand with CEO Mike Manley

If you want to tap into the true mind of the Jeep journey and vision, tuning into an interview with CEO Mike Manley is almost as good as it gets. Today, Slingerland Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM is happy to present you with a piece of Manley's interview with BoldRide.

It's not a complete conversation without talking about the Jeep Wrangler. The interviewer, an owner of a Jeep Wrangler, asked what obstacles the company is up against in the market in developing the next Jeep Wrangler. Markley replies that it's not so much an obstacle as it is an expectation.

"It has to look like a Wrangler. We could put a 30-year old Jeep next to a Wrangler and you know that they are from the same family. It has to have that clear style link," says Markley.1

Capability standards are key, too. Weight, aero, and powertrain are carefully considered. That means good fuel economy; which brings us to another question: will there ever be a diesel option for the Jeep Wrangler? Believe it or not, that all depends on the success of the diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The company estimated that about 10-15 percent Jeep Grand Cherokees would be diesel. However, it's doing so well that that may change and command whether or not it's worth giving other models the diesel option. The styling for this vehicle came with careful consideration as well.

"It needed to have clear Jeep styling DNA so that people could see its heritage, but we needed to make sure this vehicle would break through," Markley explains. "Not just from a technology perspective ...not just from a fuel economy perspective...but from a styling point...[Designers]came up with a vehicle that we hope [will] be relevant for the life of its generation."2

That was just a peek at what the CEO had to say. What do you think? Share what you'd like to know more about on our blog or ask us at our Corunna, MI location. Great ideas come from customer needs and feedback!
